Ottmar Fay Mitchell, age 75, of Joplin, MO went home to be with the Lord at 2:40 pm, February 27, 2010, at his home.
Ott was born July 24, 1934 to Ruic Ottmar Mitchell and Dovie Lutisha Bishop-Mitchell in Joplin, MO. On January 15, 1954 he married Mary Avalina Lovell, who survives him. He and Mary had five children; Wynne Etta Mitchell of Joplin, Russell Ray Mitchell and wife, of Asbury, MO, Michael Fay Mitchell, Susan Avalina Lewis and husband, both of Asbury, MO, and Lucinda Gay Reed and husband of Cadiz, KY, all survive him.
He has eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, as well as, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Ott was a member of the Lone Elm Penacostal Church where he attended with his wife.
Preceding him in death, his parents, two sisters, Frankie Cooper, and Freda Jenkins, three brothers Edsel E. Mitchell, Freddy Ruic Mitchell, and Bert Lewis Mithcell, and one foster brother Jim Hale.
Ott is also survived by two brothers; Rex Roy Mitchell and Jimmy Dale Mitchell.
Ott was a journeyman roofer and worked for most of the major roofing company’s in Joplin, MO. He was an avid fox hunter and fisherman, and a lifetime member of the Missouri Fox and Wolf Hunters Association. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and the name most precisious was what his grandchildren called him “Poppy”.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Reverend J.C. Walker officiating, bural will follow at the Hornet Cemetery.
