Clovis M. Robertson

August 31, 1917 - October 2, 2010

Clovis “Bob” M. Robertson, 93 of Joplin departed this life Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the St. John’s Medical Center after a short illness.

Bob was born on August 31, 1917 to the late Martin E. and Edith (Harden) Robertson in Joplin, Missouri. His father died at an early age, which required Bob to begin work by delivering groceries by bicycle. He graduated in 1934 from Nevada High School and then went on to further his education at Fort Scott Junior College where he graduated with an associates degree. He went on to serve his county proudly in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, where he aquired his nickname “Bob”. Bob was employed at Foodtown where he worked until his retirement in 1917. During his employment he met a lifelong friend, Minnie Goodman, he asked her out for their first date over the frozen food section; they dated until her passing in 1997. He was an avid reader and had a never ending thirst for learning; he also enjoyed carpentry and Civil War history.

He his survived by two cousins Faye Hutson, Virginia Vagt both of Oregon, and friend Rory Goodman of Joplin.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Reverend Gregory Mech officiating; burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday prior to service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.thornhilldillon.com care of the mortuary.
