Biography
Mary Christine Fields Greninger passed away in her home Friday, November 04, 2011, at the age of 97. Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, December 30, 1913, to George and Mabel Fields; Mary and her family moved to Washington State, then Texas and finally settled in Missouri. She attended Liberty Grade School and Granby High School. At church one night she met the love of her life, Lincoln Greninger, and they married on February 20, 1932 in Joplin, Missouri. During their 53 year marriage, they lived on the Greninger family county-line farm in Carthage, Missouri.
Mary was a lifetime member of the former Liberty Presbyterian Church in Diamond, Missouri, where she served as an elder and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was active throughout her life in a variety of activities including the Newton County Liberty Extension Club, Ladies Aid Society and Jones Creek 4-H Club as an adult leader. Mary retired from Fred’s Frozen Foods and Fox DeLuxe Pizza. She loved to fish, travel and make quilts with her husband Lincoln, but most of all she delighted in her family and friends who gathered at her table to enjoy her delicious feasts and lively conversations. She made every person she touched feel as though they were the most precious treasure to her.
Mary was beloved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and as one nephew was fond of saying, “everyone should have an Aunt Mary.”
Mary is survived by two daughters, Delores Johnson (husband Paul) and Marilyn Young. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Karla Young (Mike Amper); Ruth Miller (Frank); Dale Young, II (Lenni); Natalie Bailey; Julie Wootton (David); Michael Young (Pamela); Angela Langford (Cody); Joanna Teemant (Ross); and Matthew Young, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lincoln, daughter Cordelia, twin great-granddaughters Ashley and Karli Teemant, 9 brothers and 3 sisters.
Services will be at 11:00 on Tuesday, November 8 at Thornhill Dillon with visitation on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Fullerton Cemetery in Carthage, MO following the service.
